Plotter Setup Options for Simrad units

Plotter Software

Navionics recommends running the latest internal software for your plotter available from your manufacturer. You can find current plotter software versions, the update files and instructions to complete the update for your manufacturer by going to: Current chart plotter/sounder software update versions. For further assistance, please contact your plotter manufacturer directly.

In order to check the software version you are running in your plotter select PAGES to go to your main Home screen. From the Home screen go to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > ABOUT. Your software version will be listed directly under the plotter model number on the screen.

DO NOT USE YOUR CHART CARD TO UPDATE YOUR PLOTTER SOFTWARE! If your plotter has two (2) card slots, make sure your Navionics card is not in the second card slot when performing the update. Either of these things will corrupt the Navionics chart files and render the card useless.

Selecting Navionics Chart Information

To display the Navionics official charting information (Nautical Chart), first check you are in the full chart view on your screen. Go to PAGES and select the CHART application from the Home page. Select CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then go to CHART SOURCE and select NAVIONICS.

If your plotter card includes SonarChart™ high-definition bottom contour detail, use your panel options to turn on this layer. Select CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then go to VIEW and toggle on or off SONARCHART.

Recommended General Plotter Setup

Choose CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then go to SETTINGS.
For general best display of Navionics charts in your plotter, we recommend the following Settings:

COLORED SEABED AREAS - Used to display different bottom structure in different colors (not available in all areas)
Recommended: User preference (Choice of ON/OFF)

ANNOTATION - Determines what area information, such as names of locations and notes of areas, is available to display.
Recommended: FULL

PRESENTATION TYPE - Provides marine charting information such as symbols, colorization and wording as either U.S. or International type depending on the look and feel you prefer
Recommended: User preference (Choice of US or International)

CHART DETAILS - Provides you with different levels of geographical layer information
Recommended: ALL

SAFETY DEPTH - allows the shaded display of depth areas using different shades of blue to distinguish between shallow and deep water.
Recommended: Based on your boat's parameters - depth areas are displayed in darker blue (shallow depths) to lighter blue (less shallow depths). Those areas with depths over the selected value, and therefore navigable under safety conditions, will be displayed in white. DRYLINE areas will be displayed in green.

CONTOUR DEPTHS - Determines which contours you see on the chart down to the selected safety depth
Recommended: ALL

- Hides rock identification on the chart beneath a given depth
Recommended: OFF
Choose CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then COMMUNITY EDITS to toggle ON or OFF the Navionics user community edits if they have been downloaded to your plotter card.

Choose CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then VIEW to also access the following options:
SHADING - (ON/OFF) Shading adds terrain information to the chart

DYNAMIC ICONS - (ON/OFF) Shows tides and currents with a gauge and an arrow instead of the standard T or C diamond icons

EASY VIEW - (ON/OFF) Magnifying feature that increases the size of chart items and text

Navionics Advanced Features

These features require an active chart updates subscription for your Navionics plotter card. Please note that not all features are available for all models. Please consult our compatibility guide to confirm which features are available for your specific model: Compatibility Guide

Choose CHART OPTIONS from your Chart panel and then VIEW to access Navionics Advanced Features.

SONARCHART DENSITY - Controls the density of the contour lines displayed with SonarChart or SonarChart Live

FISHING RANGE - Select a range of depths between which to display a different color, highlighting a specific range of depths for fishing purposes

SHALLOW WATER HIGHLIGHT - Allows you to highlight an area of shallow water up to 10 meters/30 feet

Select OVERLAY from your Chart/Map panel and switch it to ON.
Choose SONARCHART LIVE to display it as an overlay on the chart. When selecting the SonarChart Live Overlay, the menu expands to display additional options. TRANSPARENCY - SonarChart Live is drawn on top of the chart data - adjust transparency to allow chart details to be seen. MINIMUM DEPTH - Adjust what is treated as safety depth when creating SonarChart Live - as the boat approaches this depth the overlay will gradually change color to red. It is suggested users turn on the SonarChart Live tide correction option in their Chart Settings - Tap PAGES to get to your main Home scree and select SETTINGS > CHART > SONARCHART LIVE TIDE CORRECTION (ON)

Notes: Before you can start using this feature the boat draft, width and height must be entered into the system. The boat settings dialog is automatically displayed if the information is missing when you start the feature.
It is not possible to start the Dock-to-dock Autorouting if one of the selected routepoints is located in an unsafe area. A warning dialog is displayed, and you have to move the relevant routepoint(s) to a safe area to proceed.

- Start a new route and select at least two route points or select an existing route.
- Select Dock-to-dock Autorouting.
- Select to have the system add new points for the Entire Route or just a Selection (only two route points may be selected).
- Select Accept to start the routing.

Routes will display in preview mode with color-coded legs to indicate safe (green) and unsafe (red) areas. Once the route is saved, these warnings will no longer display.
Move any route points if required while still in preview mode and then select Keep when route points have been moved successfully. You can continue to make changes to the route until you have completed it and then select Save.
